Creating Coloring Pages with GIMP
My Coloring Book Editor is only available for Windows. If you don't have access to a Windows machine, or you just don't want to use MCBEdit, you still need to make sure your pictures are PURE BLACK AND WHITE.
Quick-and-Easy with GIMP
To quickly convert using GIMP 2 follow these steps...
- Open the file which you need to convert.
- Select Image > Mode > Grayscale from the menu.
- Select Image > Mode > Indexed... from the menu.
- Choose Use black and white (1-bit) palette.
- Click [Convert].
- Use the pencil with either black or white only, to make any minor edits that are needed.
- Save the file.
More control with GIMP
For more control over the conversion using GIMP 2 follow these steps...
- Open the file which you need to convert.
- Select Image > Mode > Grayscale from the menu.
- Select Tools > Color Tools > Threshold... from the menu.
- Move the slider to the left for less black, and to the right for more. When you are satisfied, click OK.
- Select Image > Mode > Indexed... from the menu.
- Choose Use black and white (1-bit) palette.
- Click [Convert].
- Use the pencil with either black or white only, to make any minor edits that are needed.
- Save the file.
Testing with GIMP
You can also test your coloring in page in GIMP...
- Select Image > Mode > RGB.
- Choose a dark color and use the fill tool to check the paint goes only where it should.
(Be careful not to click on the outlines). - Fix up any little gaps using the pencil tool.
- Select Tools > Color Tools > Threshold... from the menu.
- Move the slider to the left for less black, and to the right for more. When you are satisfied, click OK.
- Select Image > Mode > Indexed... from the menu.
- Choose Use black and white (1-bit) palette.
- Click [Convert].
- Use the pencil with either black or white only, to make any minor edits that are needed.
- Save the file.
